This is far more useful than almost any "niching" advice I've read.
I have accidentally "niched myself" into the right niche over time by working more with brands I liked to work with, and less with brands I did not like to work with.
On the other hand, every time I've tried to force a niche, it never stuck and I never got any clients.
I’ve also found forcing it almost never works. It happens organically when you identify where your experience/network lies + when you find a problem in that market you can genuinely solve.
This by far has been exactly what I needed to hear. I’m trying to grow my photography business and it has been overwhelming discerning how to get consistent clients.
I will absolutely be putting these tips to work this week!
I love the honesty and advice Lucas. I've struggled with a lot of that in the past as I'm a web developer who dabbles in design. My offer has been something I've been trying to narrow down especially in the era of AI websites. In the web design world the advice is to always niche down, but I have such a wide variety of projects under my belt that I really don't know where to go.
I'd love your help on my offer, given your formula.
“I help small-business owners build and maintain their online presence through high converting websites”
Honestly, its pretty tough given that I think of myself as someone who builds websites, but I've noticed that my customers think of me as someone that can solve their current website problems usually related to not being able to make changes or update it.
And I worry all the time if this industry is just going to evaporate given AI, but at the same time it seems like AI opens the door to serve more customers.
Thanks for the comment, I feel ya. The good thing for you is many SMBs are still using fax machines, so I don’t think AI is going to make you obsolete just yet. Lol on the other hand, definitely figure out a “foot in the door” with these folks and if you have the chance to upsell services once you have, no problem.
But the niche focus should be the top of market and offer you lead with for all prospects.

Great to hear man, let me know if I can ever be of help
