Introducing: Free Resource Friday
New email series on The Solo Operator + this week's free resource: A free 7-block self-scan that helps entrepreneurs spot the repeat moment where follow-through breaks down.
Hey, I’m Lucas! Welcome to The Solo Operator, where I write for Christian professionals wanting to escape the 9-to-5 and replace their W2 income through solo-business ownership.
Introducing: Free Resource Friday
So this is a new thing I want to start with this newsletter.
Every Friday (or just about every Friday) I want to share a free resource, tool, article, or something I’ve come across that has been helpful to me in my business. Might even throw in a few things for a good laugh too. Who knows.
Over the years, I’ve kept a folder on my Chrome browser of “stuff that’s actually helped.”
Tools, articles, other people’s frameworks, a podcast episode, you name it. But I rarely come back to these things, nor do I have a reason to go back — until now.
I want to start sending it to you instead.
This is a new email, separate from the Monday newsletter. As I mentioned above, I don’t have a hard and fast fixed schedule. I’m not going to force a resource out every week to hit a cadence. When I come across something worth your time, or when I’ve got a few things stacked up, I’ll send it. That might be weekly. It might be once a month.
If you’ve built something, written something, or found something that’s helped you run a solo business, I’d love to hear about it and share it here. Reply to this email and if it’s useful, I’ll feature it here for the rest of the list.
To get this started, here’s a free assessment a friend shared with me that is super simple, but really helpful.
Podcast Gear List
(From Joe Coleman at Saint Kolbe Studios)
I’ve been on more and more podcasts since I’ve started my business. And as of recent, I am actively trying to get on more to get more exposure to my businesses.
Which means it’s time I update my podcast tech stack a little bit.
So of course I hit up my friend Joe at Saint Kolbe Studios a while back, seeing if he had any recommendations on set up for mics, headphones, etc.
He came through by sending me this gear list. It’s very comprehensive.
If you’re needing a new mic or podcast set up, this was very helpful and saved me many, many hours in research.
I Chronically Do This (Free Self-Assessment)
I used to think being busy all day meant I was making progress.
Turns out I was just avoiding the one thing that actually mattered.
Jennie Hays, the Execution Block Specialist, put together a free self-scan called Why You Keep Saying One Thing and Doing Another. It walks through the specific moments where follow-through breaks down.
I took it myself.
The line that got me was this one: “I have too much going on right now,” but what I actually do is stay busy all day while the important thing never gets touched.
That’s me, more often than I’d like to admit. I’ll answer emails, tidy up a doc, or reorganize a list, anything that feels productive, while the one task that would actually move the business sits untouched. It feels responsible in the moment. It isn’t. It’s just an easier way to avoid the hard thing.
Jennie’s scan is what made me name it. Once you can see the exact moment you swap the important work for the easy work, you can catch yourself faster next time.
The behavior isn’t really the problem. It’s just a signal of what’s underneath it.

Appreciate the shoutout! Always love helping people find the right gear for their podcast. I just moved into a new place, so I'll have an upcoming series on making a podcast studio out of a less-than-ideal room (it's an insane shape). Stayed tuned 👀
